Perth Ontario has launched a major campaign to inform Ottawa residents about this jewel of a shoppiong destination less than an hour southwest of Ottawa.
On July 20, a large permanent display was unveiled in the lobby of the National Arts Centre in downtown Ottawa. A companion web site http://shop-heritage-perth.com was developed to provide further information about Perth, such as its history, how to find perth, where to park, finding shops and products in Perth, major events, etc.
It features an RSS news feed to keep viewers up to date about events in Perth.
A major retail trend coming out of the US is "lifestyle centres". These are simulated small-town downtowns, designed for people. Small shops, flowers and ornamental lighting in the streets, sidewalk cafes, entertainment, farmers' market, etc.
Perth has all this and more. Perth is not a simulation - it is an authentic heritage downtown, with much of its downtown core as it was in the late 1800's and early 1900's. The stores are not the mass merchandizing global conglomerates, disguised as small town shops, but real small town shops, with the owner in the store. Over 80 boutiques, specialty shops and restaurants provide the visitor with big city selection at a small town pace.
